How do you carry your cash?

October 10, 2011

by Clarke Anderton

Does anyone even use cash anymore? Last I checked you could just pay your bill with your smart phone. At least it seems the world is moving in that direction. Does this mean cash is dead? I hope not. Cash is cool. And how you carry it can say a lot about you.

Most people I know carry a wallet and those wallets become bloated with cash, cards, receipts, business cards of people they’ll never call, and maybe… if the weekend went well… some girls’ phone number. After several months that junk starts to decompose because you forget to clean it out. The wallet becomes a chunky leather square of wasted space that can be seen framing your back pocket from a mile away. Does this still sound appealing?

A nice money clip can add a touch of elegance that you can embellish while impressing those fine women (the ones whose number you crammed into your wallet). Think they wouldn’t notice? They do. Like a fine watch or an expensive pen, the money clip can make a statement that you take pride in what you carry and you pay attention to the details. It can also add a little mystery because it only makes a brief appearance when it’s time to pay the tab. Those around you see a quick flash but then it’s gone. Was that a $100 bill or a $10 bill I just saw? She’ll have to stick with you to find out.

Spend a few extra bucks on a nice one. Cheap money clips have a tendency to break (or rust). We found a few very elegant designs (like the one pictured) at BlueNile. Most nice ones will be made of sterling silver but you can also find some quality pieces made of stainless steel  or even carbon fiber. If you decide to upgrade your style, expect to spend between $40 and $200.  A quality one will cost a bit more but will make a statement that lasts a long, long time.

Change your routine

October 8, 2011

by Clint Hamilton

Everyone is guilty of this. Regardless of how long we’ve been working out, we get into a routine of doing the same thing at the gym. Time after time it rarely changes. We strive to push further on our regular exercises but rarely do we try things we’ve never done before. It’s time to change this behavior.

A Quirky way to earn a living…

October 5, 2011

by Casey Sandstrom

Let’s see. The economy is shrinking. The stock market is devouring our savings. Unemployment is at a frightening level and no one is hiring. We want to work but we can’t and there’s no end in sight. We want to invent but it takes money to create a product and go to market with it. This is the time to find alternative ways of earning a living.

Beer of the Month – October ’11

October 2, 2011

by Damian DuBois

The objective of our “Beer of the Month” entry is not to find the perfect beer. While we love beer we are realists and firmly stand our ground in the belief that the perfect beer just hasn’t been invented yet. However, my crew is on a hard-target search for it and dammit, we will find it or die trying! Nevertheless, the objective of this monthly report is to share with you what we’ve found along our quest. Hopefully, it will open your eyes to a few new flavors, introduce you to a few master brewers and ultimately lead to many more embarrassing moments for you to share with us. The honorable beer of October is…

Know your stats – part I

September 30, 2011

by Clint Hamilton

With so much information about health available you’d think it would be easy to develop and maintain a healthy lifestyle. Yet, it isn’t. Often, too much (and conflicting) information leads to confusion and results in people not taking action. Mandibbles isn’t exactly a medical reference source. However, we do seek to inform our readers of basic health concepts that should be given attention. The goal; improve your health, live longer and of course, be a positive contributor to society. Even 2 out of 3 of those would be a win. Our topic today; BMI. Do you know what yours is?

Home health is getting smarter – and looking slicker

September 28, 2011

by C. Lee Wilcox

Is it me or is everything starting to look like Apple designed it? I guess we shouldn’t complain. Even something as mundane as a scale has gotten a full frontal face lift and emerged from its transformation looking so cool that you’ll want everyone to know you have one. The great thing about this scale is that it not only looks fresh, but it’s packed with some cool technology that makes it quite useful as well. Could this to be the centerpiece to your new home health management system? Perhaps.

Personal Wealth – revisit your long term vendor relationships

September 26, 2011

by Casey Sandstrom

I’ve been fully employed for over 10 years now and even though the economic downturn hasn’t struck me personally, it dawned on me that it would still be prudent to focus some effort on trimming expenses and saving. I reviewed my current relationships and noted that I’ve been with many of companies for years. In particular, I hadn’t even shopped around auto insurance since I got my drivers license. I guess I had a sense of loyalty and just maintained the policy year after year (in your case, insert some other lazy reason here).
