Let’s see. The economy is shrinking. The stock market is devouring our savings. Unemployment is at a frightening level and no one is hiring. We want to work but we can’t and there’s no end in sight. We want to invent but it takes money to create a product and go to market with it. This is the time to find alternative ways of earning a living.

I’ve been fully employed for over 10 years now and even though the economic downturn hasn’t struck me personally, it dawned on me that it would still be prudent to focus some effort on trimming expenses and saving. I reviewed my current relationships and noted that I’ve been with many of companies for years. In particular, I hadn’t even shopped around auto insurance since I got my drivers license. I guess I had a sense of loyalty and just maintained the policy year after year (in your case, insert some other lazy reason here).
